A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, this wine, which hit 13.5% alcohol (the 2009 was 13%) displays loads of chocolatey, herbal, black currant fruit and mocha-infused notes in a dark plum/purple-tinged, fleshy style. Drink it over the next decade.
Chateau Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has developed a reputation for outstanding wines in difficult vintages surpassing all other wines with its sheer hedonistic joy. Over the past generation, Pichon-Lalande has enjoyed one successful vintage after another under Mme May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, who reluctantly retired recently at 80 years old, and the tradition of passionate involvement continues under Louis Roederer and the Rouzaud family.
